Just Started Learning Python – What Should I Do Next?

Hey everyone! I've recently dived into learning Python, and I've completed about 5 hours of BroCode's 12-hour course—it's my very first programming language! I'm planning to create projects once I'm finished with the course to really get a grasp on applying what I've learned. After that, I'm considering tackling either CS50x or CS50P, but I'm a bit torn on which one to start with. Any advice on whether to pick CS50P first since I'm focusing on Python, or if I should jump into CS50x would be greatly appreciated! I've got around 2 to 2.5 years before I head off to university, and I'd love to build a solid foundation in programming during that time. Thanks for any tips or guidance!

BroCode is great for the basics! I'd suggest going for CS50P after finishing it because it focuses on Python—CS50x covers multiple languages which might be a little overwhelming for you at this stage. With 2.5 years to practice, you'll have plenty of time to get really good. Just remember, building projects is key; don't just watch tutorials! Start making little projects as soon as you can, even if they're not perfect at first.

Instead of sticking to YouTube courses, I'd recommend checking out the MOOC Python Programming 2026 from the University of Helsinki. It’s comprehensive and may cover all you need without requiring CS50 courses afterward. Also, regarding AI taking over jobs: it's still a long way off. AI can automate some tasks but lacks the true understanding and creativity that humans bring to programming.

When I started, I took a random free online course and found that building projects helped me the most. I took on contracts when I was about 60% sure I could complete them. Each project taught me new skills and showed me what I needed to work on next. There'll be challenges along the way, but this method really teaches you the skills in demand.
