Key Considerations Before Switching to Arch with Hyprland

I'm planning to make the switch to Arch Linux using Hyprland after two years on Ubuntu and a couple of months on Fedora. I've decided to go fully customized and have already prepared some dotfiles, fonts, and wallpapers. I'm curious, what else should I learn or prepare for before diving into this setup? Also, I have an Nvidia 4050 GPU and Intel integrated graphics—will that complicate things for me?

I recommend having a DE installed just in case Hyprland doesn't work out. You can still use apps from that DE within Hyprland, which is handy! The Hyprland wiki is super helpful for learning the ropes, and you've got options for a more minimalist setup too. Just remember—if you tinker with your Arch setup, be prepared for some bumps along the way! If you enjoy experimenting, going with filesystems like BTRFS or ZFS can be great, but be careful not to delete your home directory like I did a few times! Good luck!

Don't forget to install NetworkManager; you might end up back in the installation process if you overlook that! Using existing dotfiles is fine, but make sure you grasp the basics of a tiling WM. It might also be smart to have a lightweight DE as a backup, just to ensure you have a working environment for GUI applications.

It's super important to understand how all the different components will work together with a Window Manager like Hyprland. Think about what you really need: a notification daemon, a wallpaper utility, maybe something like quickshell or waybar? They have a wiki entry for setting up Hyprland with Nvidia GPUs, and in most cases, it should work just fine. Just be cautious—Hyprland updates can change how configurations are handled, which might break things. I started with some really straightforward dotfiles that helped me a lot while I was figuring things out.

So, you’ve probably watched one of PewDiePie's videos on this, huh? Just a heads-up, Arch isn't exactly for beginners. Hyprland can be installed on other distros too, so it's a steep learning curve. You can jump in, but just be ready for some challenges!
