Kioxia Exceria vs. Samsung 990 Pro: Which Should I Pick for Linux?

Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a new 2TB SSD to set up a dual boot with Linux. I've noticed that while Samsung drives, like the 990 Pro, are highly regarded, Kioxia is also a solid contender and much cheaper. I've linked the two models below for reference:

1. Kioxia EXCERIA with Heatsink - [link]
2. Samsung 990 Pro - [link]

Given that the Kioxia is less than half the price, I'm wondering if there are any major drawbacks I should be aware of, or if it's just a really good deal. Thanks for your insights!

For the price, the Kioxia Exceria is a fantastic choice! It's a fast and reliable SSD that comes with DRAM, which means you'll get a performance that's hard to distinguish from the Samsung.

That's what I was thinking! Sometimes a measurable difference isn't noticeable in everyday use. I did hear a comment about a potential lack of DRAM, though, so I'm looking into that.

Just to clarify, Kioxia is actually rebranded Toshiba, so they're definitely not a no-name brand. I'd go with the Exceria, especially since it's cheaper!

From my experience, Linux is way easier on SSDs compared to Windows, especially regarding random writes. For Linux, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Exceria. You wouldn't need to spend the extra on the Samsung!

But where's the claim coming from about it lacking DRAM? That seems like a big point to consider.
