I was tightening some screws on my laptop while it was off and not connected to power when I noticed smoke coming out for a few seconds. Now, the laptop won't turn on. I opened up the back and didn't see any burnt wires, but I'm really worried. Is there a way to fix this or prevent further damage?

When you tighten screws on a laptop, they should be the right length to avoid grounding issues on the motherboard. If the screws were too long, they could have introduced current to components in unexpected ways, leading to smoke and possibly damage. As for it not turning on, laptops have batteries, and parts of the board still get power even when it’s off. You might have to check those connections.
It sounds like you might have accidentally used the wrong screws, which could have hit the lithium battery. That's definitely a fire hazard. Be careful with the screws and make sure they’re the right length next time!
It’s possible that a capacitor blew during that incident, which could explain why it won't power on now. You might need to get it checked to see if it's just a simple fix or if it’s something major.
Yeah, that sounds bad. Is there any chance I can still salvage it?
I noticed the keyboard lights turn on, but the display is still black. Any ideas on fixing that?
