I'm having a really frustrating experience with AWS billing. My credit card changed recently, and I forgot to update it in my AWS account. Now, when I try to log in to my root account, it's asking for a One Time Password sent to my root email. The problem is, AWS shut off my DNS, and I can't access my email! I'm completely locked out of my account, and all the guides just tell me to log in, but I can't because of this email verification issue. I've submitted support tickets and spoke to MFA support, but they said the email OTP isn't an MFA issue. I've even received a response from billing support saying they tried to call me, but I was able to talk to the MFA people just fine. How do I pay my bill and regain access to my services? Please help me out!

Check who your domain registrar is. If you didn’t register your domain through AWS, you might still be able to access your email. For instance, if you used a service like Cloudflare for your domain and changed the NS records to point to AWS, you could recover your email that way. But if your domain is through AWS and your DNS is managed by Route 53, then you’ll likely need help directly from AWS support. Just be cautious for next time, as putting all your DNS management under one provider can lead to problems like this!
I’m not convinced AWS would shut off your DNS just because your payment didn't go through right away. I missed a payment recently, and my domains were still working fine. If you don’t keep an eye on notifications though, they might shut it down after a while. Ultimately, keeping your payment info updated is your responsibility, and they have the right to suspend services if you neglect that.
There’s usually more to these situations than one side shows.
At some point, accounts do get shut down if payments aren't made.
Yes, it happens when you neglect to check your email.
A good practice is to avoid using the same provider for your domain registrar and hosting. It can lead to complications like this.
Definitely! I learned that the hard way.
If you've got a case ID, shoot it my way in a PM. I’d be happy to check it out and see what we can do.
I've sent the case information your way!
The domain registrar is AWS.
