Longhorn V2 Engine: How Stable Is It for Long-Term Use?

I'm curious if anyone has had long-term experiences with the Longhorn V2 Engine, especially regarding its stability. I know V1 had issues that made it not suitable for production in the past, particularly concerning performance compared to alternatives like Ceph and Rook. Has performance improved in V2 to the point where it's now comparable to Ceph?

Just a heads-up, Longhorn V2 was only made generally available about a month ago, so stable, long-term data is still limited. However, they've made significant improvements with the SPDK data path compared to V1. I’d recommend holding off on critical applications for now and maybe waiting until a few more minor updates roll out. If you want something tried and true, Rook-Ceph is a safer option right now.

I've stuck with Longhorn V1 since switching to V2 has been a real hassle, and honestly, it's not usable right now. If you're looking for something different, I heard Pirates, which is based on LinStor, is pretty easy to use and performs well. It could be worth checking out if you're considering alternatives.

I think OpenEBS is a solid alternative if you're looking for something stable. Longhorn V2 was actually just a preview before the 1.11 release that came out recently. I ran some stress tests on version 1.9.1 and had a few bugs pop up. Since then, I haven't had the chance to test it again because performance isn't a major concern for my setup. But I can say OpenEBS didn't give me any issues during those tests.
