Looking for a Silent Power Supply: Recommendations Needed!

Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a high-quality power supply that prioritizes quiet operation. My previous PSU was an EVGA 650 GT, which was silent even under heavy load. However, since switching to the RM 750e, I've been frustrated with the noise from the fan—it's loud enough to be heard over the rest of my system, frequently starting and stopping, plus it has a resonating sound at certain loads and some annoying coil whine.

I have a system that includes a 7800X3D CPU and a 9070XT GPU. I'm considering getting a power supply that's way overkill, like a 1300W or higher, to keep the fan from spinning at all. Do you think that would work? I'm also eyeing the MPG A850GS since it's rated A and seems like a good deal. Does anyone have experience with this model? My main goal is to find a PSU that is as close to silent as possible, and it must support 12VHPWR while being A rated. My budget is around $150, but I'm open to looking at second-hand options. Thanks in advance for your help!

A 1300W power supply could definitely help keep the fan from spinning up since it'd be overkill for your system, but I haven’t really run into many complaints about PSU noise. I’ve got a SF1000 with a 7600X and a 7800XT and honestly, the only thing I hear is my intake fans. You could also consider a reliable PSU like the Montech Century II in either the 850W or 1050W version. They’re quite solid! If you’re feeling adventurous, you might try tuning down your CPU and GPU to pull less power, that could help reduce the load and the fan noise, too, without much of a performance hit.

I’d actually steer clear of the Century. I read a review that mentioned the hole shape could create unwanted airflow noise. Plus, tuning the power draw might not help much since the fan on the RM750e seems to kick in even at idle. That unit seems like a dud compared to the 650 GT which did fine at the same loads. My main concern with a new PSU would be coil whine, which can pop up even in high-quality units.

Hey! The MPG A850GS is a solid choice. It’s known to be a quiet unit and is currently at a great price. You should definitely check it out! Here’s a link to some sound data: https://imgur.com/a/es86soU

Interesting info! Do you have access to those sound charts in the tier list? Also, would the 1000W version be quieter under loads compared to the 850W?
