Why can’t I install games on Steam after switching to Ubuntu?

Hey everyone! I recently made the switch from Windows 10 to Ubuntu Mint, but I'm having issues installing Steam games. Every time I try, the download just sits at 1%. Plus, I can't seem to set a download location on my second drive, and it takes forever to open Steam—around 30-40 seconds. Interestingly, other games like Minecraft seem to work fine. I even tried switching to regular Ubuntu thinking it would help, but I'm still facing the same problems. I've installed Steam from both the website and the app store, and I've made sure the permissions allow writing to both of my drives. It's really frustrating! Has anyone else experienced this or knows how to fix it?

This sounds like a permissions issue, especially for your secondary drive. Double-check that your user account has full permissions where your drive is mounted. Changing the ownership of the directory can often fix these kinds of problems. Also, for starting Steam, the first launch might take a while, but afterward, it should be quicker unless it's updating.

First, make sure you have enough free space on your main drive. You can check this by running the command 'df -h' in the terminal. It’ll show you your available disk space, and you should have at least a bit of room for downloads.

Are other operations on your second drive working properly? If everything else runs smoothly, that might help narrow down the problem.
