I'm in the process of building a new gaming PC to replace my 7-year-old setup. I recently upgraded my GPU to an RX 9070 XT, but I'm realizing that my old i7-8700 isn't gonna cut it for much longer. Since I've got a new, current-gen graphics card, I think it's the perfect time to go for a full new build. I'm aiming for something future-proof that can handle all types of games, especially since I play HD2, which is pretty CPU intensive. I have a decent budget, but it's not unlimited. I'd like to stick with AMD for nostalgia reasons; my first build was all AMD. I'm torn between the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 series. Can anyone help clarify the main differences and recommend which one would be better for my gaming needs? Thanks a lot!

If you're mainly gaming, go for the 9800X3D. It's super powerful and should keep you set for years. The 9950X3D is a good bet if you need it for both gaming and some productivity work, but the 9800X3D will be more than enough for just gaming.
Honestly, don't just go with AMD because you're used to it. Purchase AMD because right now, it's leading the charge in gaming CPUs. I'd suggest the 9800X3D paired with a B850 motherboard, but avoid ASRock boards for now.
Totally recommend the 9800X3D! It should crush HD2 like a champ. My 5800X3D is still performing great, even with 3D software. You won't regret it!
Why avoid ASRock?
