I'm considering upgrading my CPU since it often hits 100% usage, especially when I'm streaming. I've heard that I might need to upgrade my motherboard too for a better performance boost. Here are my current specs as a reference (I've had this PC since 2022):
- Motherboard: H310M S2H
- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700F CPU 3.00GHz
- Installed RAM: 16.0 GB
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (12 GB)
- SSD: WD SN850X 2TB
When I stream, I mainly run my game, Spotify, Discord, and my streaming platform, which causes significant slowdowns and FPS drops. It's especially bad with Fortnite on mid/low settings. My CPU temperature averages around 60°C, so overheating doesn't seem to be the issue. I'm not looking to upgrade my RAM because it's pricey unless it's absolutely necessary. I also want to make sure I'm using my SSD efficiently. Any tips or recommendations on what to do next?

If you're using CPU for streaming, it might be causing those performance issues. Consider switching to GPU streaming, which can improve your stream quality a lot. Use NVIDIA’s NVENC if you can. An upgrade to a 12th or 13th gen Intel CPU with a DDR4 compatible motherboard can also help—it still outperforms your current setup significantly. Just be cautious about whether you want to invest in DDR4 now or go for future-proof plans with DDR5.
It sounds like your streaming setup is definitely taxing your current CPU. While 16GB of RAM can work, it might be worth considering an upgrade to 32GB if you find a good deal on a secondhand kit. It can help manage multiple programs better while you’re streaming. As for your SSD, could you clarify what you mean by using it to its fullest?
I’m just not sure how to utilize it completely. I thought having a fast SSD was enough, but maybe I'm missing something?
You might want to look at something like the Intel 12600KF paired with an MSI PRO B760-P DDR4 motherboard, which together costs around $407 on Amazon. This combination will give you a significant performance boost while still using your current DDR4 RAM. Just keep in mind that if you go for DDR5, it will come at a higher price. Is upgrading to DDR5 worthwhile in your opinion?
Thanks for the suggestion! Do you think it's worth the investment to upgrade to DDR5 instead of staying with DDR4 for now?

I’ll definitely check out NVENC! It seems like upgrading to a combo that supports DDR5 might be the way to go, but I’m nervous about the expense.
