Looking for Advice on External SSDs for Gaming

Hey folks,

I recently got my first gaming PC in August and I'm finally catching up on a ton of games I've missed. However, I'm running out of space on my 1TB internal SSD. I'm considering getting an external SSD to store my games.

Right now, I'm looking at the Crucial X9 Pro 1TB SSD. I heard it's a decent brand and the price seems right.

Since I'm pretty new to all this, I'd appreciate if you could explain it to me like I'm a first grader. What do you think?

You might be better off with an internal drive instead of going external. It's usually easier to install and offers better speed. Plus, storage capacity can be better on internal drives too!

Haha, well installing an internal drive sounds tricky for me...

I just set up a second internal NVMe SSD to install my games on, and it’s working great! While SATA is an option, I'd steer clear of fully external drives; they can be slow and unreliable for gaming.

If you really want to go external, consider getting a 4TB SATA SSD with a DRAM cache, plus a good USB-C case and a 40Gbps cable for better performance. Just keep in mind that running games off USB can sometimes lead to issues.
