Should I Focus on Personal Projects or Take More Courses?

I'm a second-year engineering student who has completed Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) and started practicing Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and web development. I'm at a crossroads and wondering whether I should dive into personal projects or specialize in an area like AI or databases. What would be more beneficial for my learning?

Focusing on personal projects is usually a better path than jumping into another course at this stage. Projects challenge you to combine your knowledge and tackle issues that might pop up, which is where the real learning happens. If you're interested in AI or databases, you can certainly aim your projects in that direction. Just keep the scope manageable and finish them! Completing a few solid projects will give you a clearer idea of where you want to specialize in the future.

Thank you for clearing things up! I will start with some simple ones.

Hey there! At this point, it might be wise not to specialize too soon. Since you've got the basics down with DSA, OOP, and some web dev, personal projects will let you apply what you’ve learned and discover what you really enjoy. Projects can naturally steer you towards areas like AI or databases later on. You’ll find that you have plenty of time to focus more deeply on a specific area later. If you're looking for ideas, check out lists of beginner projects on sites like Codecademy, or just build something you’re personally interested in—the passion will definitely enhance your learning.

Should I watch tutorials if I get stuck in the middle of a project?

You should definitely build some projects! It’s one of the best ways to really grasp programming concepts. Plus, you can find plenty of project ideas and practice websites out there. Building projects will also help you understand how everything connects in the real world, so jump in!
