I'm really stressed out right now. I suspect I might have a Remote Access Trojan (RAT) on my laptop. I've turned off my PC, disconnected from the internet, and changed my email and Steam passwords with two-factor authentication. The supposed attacker is claiming that there's a BIOS RAT on my device. I'm wondering if just reinstalling Windows would be enough to remove any threats. I'm scared to go through with the reinstall because of what he said about the BIOS. Can anyone help me understand this situation better?

Definitely sounds like you're being scammed. BIOS RATs are extremely rare and require a lot of expertise to install—much less likely than a regular RAT. Stick with your plan to reinstall Windows and make sure to use trusted software moving forward!
It's highly unlikely you have a BIOS RAT; those are super rare and require physical access to your computer. You're probably dealing with a simple browser RAT or some other malware. My advice? A fresh reinstall of Windows should do the trick! Just be sure to back up your important files first—good luck!
Yeah, it's definitely safer to just reinstall Windows and make sure your important files are backed up and scanned. If you're still worried, consider changing your BIOS passwords too, just in case!
Don't fall for the scare tactics! A BIOS RAT is not something that just happens randomly, and it sounds like this person is trying to extort money from you. If you've changed your passwords and they're asking you for payments, it's probably a scam. Just reinstall Windows and you should be back in business!
Thanks for the reassurance! I feel more confident about going ahead with the reinstall.

Thanks for the insight! I was worried, but now I feel like I'm on the right track. Gonna do the reinstall soon.
