Hey everyone,
I've realized that our business lacks an updated asset database for our laptops and desktops, which is especially noticeable after our upgrades to Windows 11. I'm unsure which machines have been upgraded or are being disposed of.
We're a small business operating with 150 devices, including several virtual machines. Our setup is a hybrid domain, with some units joined to Entra and others to Active Directory.
I'm searching for a reasonably priced asset management system that can perform auto discovery for both types of domains, as we need to get a clear view of our current assets. I've heard good things about Snipe-IT, but I'm struggling to find effective auto discovery options. A tool like LanSweeper would be perfect, but our budget doesn't allow for that.
We currently use Jira, and I know it has asset management capabilities, but I'm having trouble finding proper setup documentation.
Any recommendations or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

GLPI is definitely worth considering! If you deploy the agent across your devices, it can handle the inventory for you, making life a lot easier.
Jira’s Assets feature is now available for all plans, but I'm not sure about the asset discovery part. You might need a premium plan for that. I created a guide that covers the basics of Jira's Assets data structure, which might help you get started. Also, don't forget, the feature used to be called Insight, so that keyword could help with your searches.
Thanks for sharing the link! That guide looks super useful for getting a grip on how to set up Jira for asset management.
You could also look at some affordable options from companies like Block 64, Kaseya, or Snow. They offer automated hardware and software discovery, which could save you a lot of time.
Yeah, the agentless discovery feature sounds like it could give you a comprehensive view of your assets, especially in terms of security compliance.
You might want to check out Spiceworks; it's free and could give you a good starting point. It should help you show the value of a paid system later, if necessary.

I've used GLPI before, and it really simplifies the process of managing assets. Just make sure to allocate some time for setup.
