Looking for an Updated Linux Task List for Aspiring Engineers

I recently came across IConrad's Linux task list that was quite popular, but the latest version I found is about five years old and references some outdated solutions. Here's the original list if you're curious: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxadmin/s/Ng2iLRaY3h. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a more modern and detailed task list that focuses on real-world engineering tasks, as opposed to the typical tutorial-style self-training that often lacks depth. Any recommendations?

The tasks in that list are mostly still relevant! I would definitely hire someone who can tackle those tasks confidently. Just a few updates I'd suggest:
- Swap out CentOS 5, 6, and 7 for Rocky Linux 8 and 9.
- Change Puppet to Ansible, since that's more current.
- Instead of Spacewalk, go with Foreman or Uyuni.
- When it comes to LDAP, I’d recommend using FreeIPA or Keycloak now.
Also, the list doesn’t mention containers or cloud technologies, which are super important for Linux admins today. It's heavily focused on the RedHat ecosystem, but a broader approach would be helpful.

Totally agree! If you can handle the tasks on that list, then working with containers is just another layer of Linux management. As for LDAP, once you've got that down, Docker's quirks won't catch you off guard.

I am with you on that! Most enterprise Linux environments are centered around RedHat, which makes sense. I'd add Kubernetes to the conversation too; it’s being pushed heavily everywhere, and I can't see that trend slowing down.

You might want to check out this newer list I found: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxadmin/comments/tvjegv. It has some updated tasks that might interest you.

That list is still pretty solid! It's great to see which tasks have held up over time.
