I've dabbled in Linux for a few years now, starting with Ubuntu and Fedora, and recently tried transitioning from Windows 11 to Bazzite because it includes NVIDIA drivers out of the box. However, I found the Atomic desktop a bit overwhelming. I'm searching for a Linux distribution that meets a few specific criteria. First, it should support the Niri window manager, ideally with some pre-configured dotfiles. Secondly, it should come with NVIDIA drivers and Proton for gaming already set up or provide an easy command to install them without the risk of major mistakes. HDR support and scaling for my 4K monitor would also be a plus since I use it at 1.25x. Lastly, I want something that allows for easy installation of Flatpaks, as I've found those pretty straightforward so far. I'm open to any suggestions or guidance—even if it's tough love for asking a seemingly impossible question! Thanks in advance!

I'd recommend trying Nobara! It's great for new users and offers a solid gaming experience. If you're willing to learn a bit, CachyOS is also top-notch for gaming, but Nobara essentially uses the same kernel, so either should work well for you. I personally use Fedora with the CachyOS kernel, and it runs smoothly with plenty of program compatibility. If you’re new, I suggest going with KDE Plasma since it's more user-friendly for gaming.
I'd say give Pop_OS! a try! It comes with the necessary drivers and you can easily install Steam from its software store. It handles Proton seamlessly, so gaming should be straightforward. While you might not find Niri as a built-in option for beginners, you can focus on getting your system up first and then look into adding Niri later when you're more comfortable.
You might want to check out Garuda Linux; it has support for both NVidia and AMD drivers and is designed for gamers with its Garuda Gamer tool. I installed it on an old laptop and it runs well on low specs too. If Flatpaks are important for you, Linux Mint Cinnamon 22 ZARA has them available in its software store, too!
