Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my gaming rig, and I'd love your thoughts on my setup. Right now, I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and a 2070 Super, but I want to move to 1440p gaming and future-proof my system, especially since I'm also diving into Linux gaming this time and have chosen AMD for my new build.
With all the craziness in the parts market lately, I regret not upgrading last year when prices were better. My current plan is to put together a powerful system that can last for years. I'm considering the Fractal Design Meshify 2 case because I value a front dust filter since I vape (trying to quit!). I'm not too keen on going with the Meshify 3 or the North XL due to concerns about build quality.
One of my main questions is whether the Thermalright Peerless Assassin is still a top choice for a CPU cooler. I want to avoid AIO systems and prefer something quieter. I'm also open to suggestions for fans if anyone has experience with different setups. My budget is flexible as long as I'm getting solid performance for the future. Here's my parts list:
- AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
- Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 Motherboard
- G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32 GB DDR5-6000
- Samsung 990 Pro 1 TB and 2 TB NVMe SSDs
- XFX Mercury OC 16 GB Radeon RX 9070 XT
- Fractal Design Meshify 2 Case
- be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000 W Power Supply
Total: $2966.84
Any insights would be appreciated! Thanks!

If budget isn't an issue, this setup is going to be fantastic! It’s almost identical to my current build, and I've been super happy with it. If there's a Microcenter near you, check for CPU bundles; they offer great discounts that'll help. Plus, I totally agree about the 9070 XT for 1440p gaming — it’ll handle that with ease and works well with Linux. Enjoy building your rig!
Your parts list looks solid overall, but it might be a bit pricey! There are definitely cheaper prebuilt options out there with similar parts if you're open to that. If you're looking to save a few bucks, you could switch to a different RAM and find some deals on the power supply too. The Peerless Assassin is a great cooler for your CPU, especially if you prefer air cooling. Go for it if you're set on this build!

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, my nearest Microcenter is a bit far, and the drive wasn’t worth the savings for me, but I appreciate the tip!
