I'm currently planning to upgrade my video production workstation and I'd love to hear your thoughts on my proposed new build. Performance is my top priority since I'm facing bottlenecks with video editing software, especially when working with 4K footage. I need my new setup to have plenty of USB ports (including USB-C), multiple SATA connections, and a couple of M.2 slots for storage. Stability is crucial—I can't afford any compatibility issues or random shutdowns.
Here's a recap of my current build:
- AMD Ryzen 9 5900X with Noctua NH-D15 cooler
- Asus Crosshair VI HERO motherboard
- G. Skill Ripjaws V 64GB RAM
- EVGA FTW2 ULTRA GAMING GeForce RTX 3090
- EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G+ power supply
After receiving a bonus, I've set a budget of $3,300 for a new build. Here's what I've come up with so far:
- AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor
- Noctua NH-D15 G2 cooler
- Asus ProArt X870E-CREATOR WIFI motherboard
- G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 128 GB DDR5 RAM
I plan to keep my current GPU and power supply as part of this upgrade. I'm also starting fresh with M.2 drives for my OS and projects, moving my HDDs over from my existing rig. I would appreciate any input on the build, including suggestions for a case that can accommodate a Blu-Ray drive.
For context, I use this workstation for editing, color grading, graphics work, VFX, sound, and some music production—mainly relying on the Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc.) and DaVinci Resolve. I've noticed that my current motherboard is starting to show its age, leading to some annoying stability issues, which is why I'm leaning towards a full upgrade. Let me know if you have any recommendations or questions!

You might want to consider just upgrading your GPU at this point. The Adobe Suite really hits hard on VRAM lately, especially with all the new features. If you're still using the RTX 3090, it might not give you enough of a performance boost to justify a full rebuild unless your motherboard is seriously failing. What do you think?
If you do upgrade the GPU, I would suggest looking into the upcoming models like the 5080! They should give you a decent performance boost for Creative Suite tasks.

I totally get what you're saying, but I'm really concerned about the motherboard issues—random boot problems and Ethernet dropouts. If I’m investing in a new motherboard, I might as well go all out and upgrade the whole setup to AM5, right?
