Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a situation here and could use your expertise. My company has decided not to renew our LogMeIn contract because it's quite pricey, especially since we use Microsoft tools exclusively and don't have any on-prem services. While RDP and Quick Assist are decent options, they both have limitations: RDP doesn't allow me to access a user's active session, and Quick Assist requires user approval for admin tasks, plus I can't copy/paste between our sessions.
I'm on the lookout for an alternative solution that's preferably free. I need something that will let me take over a user's logged-in session (with their consent), perform elevated admin actions, and allow me to copy information from my screen to theirs. I do have a Windows server available that could potentially host it if necessary, but a serverless option would be ideal. Any recommendations?

We currently use RustDesk and it's been working great for us!
Don’t forget about MeshCentral; it’s another option worth exploring.
I’m not sure what you consider expensive, but NinjaOne has been effective for us and is reasonably priced. It might be worth checking out if it fits your needs!
Have you tried using RDP's shadow mode? It allows you to view or control another user's session without interrupting them. If that doesn’t work, you might consider setting up a RustDesk server. You can configure the client on your side and push it to user devices for remote access.
I remember seeing some good suggestions in another thread recently. For starters, Action1 is a free patch and application platform for up to 100 devices which includes remote access. Level.io is a cheap and effective RMM solution too.
If you are looking just for remote support, Spiceworks (through Zoho) could be useful. There are also RustDesk and MeshCentral as open-source options.
Note that TeamViewer and Anydesk may not allow businesses to use their free versions. Ever since I used Screenconnect, which offers good admin access, I’ve seen positive results, but it’s not free unless you self-host. Good luck, and let us know what you decide!
You might find it more cost-effective to look into an EPM product. It could allow users to self-elevate permissions as needed, which might solve your admin access issue.
Have you considered RealVNC? It’s a solid alternative for remote access if you're looking for options outside LogMeIn.
