Looking for Guidance on Building a New Gaming PC

I have an old PC with an i7-2600k processor, a GTX 1070 graphics card, an ASUS P8Z68-V LE motherboard, and 16GB of DDR3 RAM. Given how outdated these components are, I doubt anything can be salvaged for a new build. I'm aiming to create a gaming rig that can handle recent titles at high settings in 1440p and around 144Hz. I've noticed that I can't find many complete builds under $2,000 CAD (excluding the monitor, which I'll need as well). Is this the expected price right now, or has the market just skyrocketed?

You can potentially put together a decent build for $2,000 CAD, but you probably won't be getting top-notch components at that price, especially with how high RAM and SSD costs are right now.

You might be able to sell your GTX 1070 for a bit of cash, which can help you cover the cost of a new cooler or case. I recommend checking out used parts on platforms like Facebook Marketplace, eBay, or Craigslist. You'll find better deals there if you do your research on decent GPUs, CPUs, and RAM.

Buying used can feel risky. Just make sure to check reviews of the seller and ask for testing videos or photos to avoid scams!

Prices are wild right now mainly because AI companies are buying up RAM, storage, and GPUs, leading to shortages. Some GPU manufacturers predict a big spike in prices moving into 2026, so you're wise to look into alternatives. With current pricing, if you're looking for high performance in 1440p gaming, consider either buying second-hand or going for a pre-built, as they've been offering better value lately.

I hadn't looked into pre-built options before. Any recommendations on where to buy them online?
