Hey everyone! I'm super excited to share that I've landed a DevOps intern role! There will be some training before I hit the ground running, but since my background is in mechanical engineering, I'm eager to get a head start in this new environment. I've already begun an online DevOps course and have wrapped my head around some basics like Linux, Vagrant, and Docker. I'm reaching out to see what areas I should focus on next to be better prepared for my internship and any training that's coming up. I'd really appreciate any advice or resources you might recommend. Thanks a ton!

It might be helpful to ask your job supervisor directly about what they expect from you during training. Knowing their expectations can really set you on the right path.
I actually can't ask them yet since my trainer is on leave, so I missed that initial guidance.
A great way to get hands-on experience is to install Linux on your main PC and use it daily. Consider working on simple projects like launching a Docker container with something like an Nginx website or a small Python script. Learning how to have different components communicate with each other is super crucial, especially understanding Docker concepts like port forwarding and layers, since many folks struggle with those basics.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely dive into that!
If your employer utilizes a public cloud, it’s a good idea to get familiar with that environment too. Understanding how cloud services work can be a huge plus in your role.
Got it! I’ll focus on that as well. Thanks!

In that case, maybe connecting with another senior DevOps person could also help!
