I've got an old PC that's currently running Windows 11, and I'm planning to install Linux on it for practice before moving on to my laptop. I've got a sizeable USB drive ready for backups, but I'm unsure where to start. Are there any good tutorials or resources you recommend for someone new to Linux? Thanks for any guidance!

To get started, you'll want to back up your important data to that USB drive. After that, make a bootable Linux drive using software like Rufus with your chosen Linux distro's ISO file. Then, you just boot from that USB and follow the installation steps. It's actually easier than setting up a new Windows install!

Choose a beginner-friendly Linux distribution like Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Download the ISO from their official sites and create a bootable USB using Rufus. After that, boot from the USB, and the installation process will guide you through it. If you run into questions, don’t hesitate to ask or check out some YouTube tutorials for a visual guide!

First off, how did you manage to install Windows 11 on that old PC? That's impressive! But back to your question: I agree with everyone here. The best way to learn Linux is just to dive in and use it. You can try out different distros using a live USB before making any permanent changes. It’s a much less risky way to find the right fit for you.

If you're thinking books will be your best guide, think again! The real learning happens once you start using Linux. A great way to begin is by installing VENTOY on a USB drive and loading it with Linux ISOs. For downloads, consider using torrent clients for better integrity. Before diving into installation, it’s smart to disable Windows hibernation and set the clock to UTC for dual-boot setups. Once you’ve tested a few distros in live mode, pick your favorite, backup your data, and then install! You'll figure it out as you go, trust me.
