Hey everyone! I'm diving back into building a PC after over a decade, and I could really use your help. I've got a budget of $2,000 and I'm looking to build a machine that can handle modern multiplayer games at 1440p while maintaining 100fps or more. Additionally, I need it to manage some game development tasks with tools like Unreal Engine 5, Adobe Substance, and maybe even some Houdini. I'm also hoping for a setup that allows for upgrades in the coming years. Any advice or component suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Here's a list I recommend within your budget ([PCPartPicker List](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WvYk4p)). For the CPU, go with the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D which is an excellent choice. 32 GB of DDR5 memory will give you plenty of headroom for multitasking, and I included a 2 TB NVMe SSD for storage. For your GPU, definitely aim for the 5080 if you're doing any heavy dev work, it'll serve you well for a few years. Plus, I've adjusted some cooling components to ensure you're not overpaying for unnecessary water cooling. It totals around $2066, slightly over, but worth considering for the performance!

First off, your PSU is a bit overkill for what you need right now; you might want to downgrade to a more budget-friendly model. For cooling, a good air cooler works just fine with the Ryzen 7 processors, so skip the water cooling. As for the motherboard, there's not much difference between the X870 and B850; you can save some money there. If you're looking to boost your gaming performance, I’d suggest swapping the CPU for the 9800X3D, which is awesome for both productivity and gaming! Check out this updated build I made: [PCPartPicker List](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RtHCfd).

This is what I’d go with as well! I'm not a fan of NZXT cases so I'd suggest switching that out. I did include an exhaust fan in my recommendation for airflow. You might also want to consider the Tomahawk X870 motherboard for its extra connectivity options if you think you’ll benefit from those features. However, if you decide on a more affordable B850 board, you can save up for the 5070 Ti instead of going for the 9070 XT. Here’s the list I came up with: [PCPartPicker List](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wYkpqH).

Thanks for the input, what cases do you prefer?

For your budget, I wouldn't go below a 5070 Ti, especially since you're handling game development too. It provides a solid amount of power for those tasks. Aim for getting a quality PSU that can handle future upgrades. As for your build, make sure your case has good airflow, so consider adding an exhaust fan if you don’t have one.
