Looking for Insights on Migrating from AWS to Oracle Cloud

Hey everyone! My team is considering a switch from AWS to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and we're hoping to pick your brains on a few specific comparisons. We're looking at services like:
- EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service) on AWS versus OKE (Oracle Kubernetes Engine) on OCI
- EC2 versus OCI Compute
- AWS Load Balancers compared to OCI Load Balancer.
We're particularly interested in hearing about things like performance and cost differences, ease of setup and everyday management, integration with other services like IAM, autoscaling, and monitoring, as well as data transfer costs—especially since AWS charges for outbound traffic while OCI offers a free monthly bandwidth allowance (up to 10TB depending on the region). If anyone has any experiences or tips for making this transition, we would greatly appreciate your input! Thanks!

Before you make the leap, you should really consider what your goals are for migrating. Are you looking to save on costs?

Yes, we're definitely trying to cut down on our cloud spending, and I've heard Oracle can offer some significant savings.

I've noticed that while Oracle's pricing can be lower, the quality often suffers. You might find that integration with other tools is also pretty limited, which could be a hassle.

You might want to check your current data transfer fees too. AWS typically only charges for outbound traffic to the internet, so if you have internal transfers, those should usually be free. Just a heads up—I learned this the hard way!

We had a similar discussion at my company but decided to fine-tune our AWS costs first. By optimizing, we saved about 30% on data transfer fees! It might be worth it to look into those optimizations first before making a decision about switching to OCI.
