Looking for Linux Distro Suggestions for My Older Acer Laptop

I'm thinking of switching from Windows to Linux on my Acer Aspire 3, which I bought about five years ago. Since my laptop is getting older, I believe this is a good move. Could you recommend a Linux distribution that has a simple, Mac-like feel? I also want to know what desktop environment would work best for me. Here are my laptop specs:

* Processor: Intel Core i5 10210U
* RAM: 8GB DDR4 2666 MT/s
* Storage: Toshiba 1TB HDD

I'd like to dual-boot with Windows at first since I'm new to Linux, and I plan to reinstall it later as I settle in. Thanks in advance for the help!

Your laptop's specs are decent enough that you don't need a lightweight distro, but you could still benefit from better performance. Distro options like Linux Lite, Xubuntu, or the XFCE spins of OpenSUSE, Fedora, or Mint can provide a balance of performance and customizability without sacrificing aesthetics too much.

Since my laptop has an HDD, it’s slow on Windows, taking about 3 minutes to boot. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation mate!

EndeavourOS with Gnome could be a great fit! It’s user-friendly, and the desktop environment is minimalist and easy to navigate, making your adjustment to Linux smoother.

Make sure to back up your data before anything else. Once that's taken care of, I recommend giving Linux Mint a shot. Their installation instructions are straightforward and easy to follow.

If you're looking for a distro that feels Mac-like, I'd suggest trying Zorin OS. It's designed with a simple layout that's beginner-friendly and has a Mac-esque vibe.

You might want to look into Ubuntu, particularly if you're okay with some slight customizations to give it a more Mac-like appearance. Remember, the cool thing about Linux is that you can try multiple desktop environments! If you find one isn't to your liking, you can simply switch it out for another without reinstalling everything.
