Looking for PC upgrade advice for gaming in 2025/2026

I'm currently using a PC with an NVIDIA 2060 GPU (6GB), Ryzen 5 3600XT CPU, TUF B550M motherboard, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and I'm checking the PSU. I'm seeking recommendations for upgrades to enhance my AAA gaming experience, especially considering I want to move from 1080P to potentially 1440P or even 4K by 2025/2026. Should I upgrade specific components, or is it better to build a new PC entirely?

It comes down to budget, really. For the most graphics-intensive performance, consider the latest GPUs like the 7900 XTX or even the 5090 for the best FPS. If you're looking for something more affordable, you might get away with an RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT for stable 4K at 60FPS. For CPUs, Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a solid option, but the 5600G is also reliable without breaking the bank.

Your Ryzen 5 3600XT might bottleneck modern GPUs if you're aiming for 1440P. Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D would help, but don’t forget to do a BIOS update afterward. You’ll also want to upgrade your GPU; a card with 12GB or more of VRAM is necessary for smooth gaming at higher resolutions. Also, boost your RAM to at least 32GB to stay current with AAA titles. And check that your PSU is 750W or higher if you're going for major upgrades!

Honestly, with the current shortage, prices are going up, making this a tough time to upgrade. If you want to play AAA games in 1440P or 4K with max settings, consider scrapping the whole build for a new one. An AM5 motherboard paired with an RTX 3080ti or better is ideal, but DDR5 RAM is pricey right now, often comparable to GPU costs. For a budget-friendly option, you could look for a Ryzen 7 5700X and a used 3060ti, which should still offer decent performance for 1440P at medium settings.

Before committing, think about your FPS targets and overall budget. Upgrading the GPU from a 2060 is a must to get to 1440P or 4K. Adding another 16GB of RAM is also a wise choice for better performance in AAA games. If you're serious about going higher, consider a CPU upgrade as well; moving to Ryzen 5 5600X or 5700X might help, especially if you're also getting a new GPU. I’d recommend upgrading just the GPU and RAM first while saving for an eventual full build.

That sounds like a smart approach! Upgrading the GPU first allows you to assess performance without a huge investment right away.

RAM prices are high right now, but upgrading to 32GB is a good move if you plan to keep your current setup. A GPU upgrade to something like a 3060 (12GB) would significantly help too. For the PSU, aim for at least 650W, or 750W if you might build a new PC later. Prebuilt systems might also offer good deals right now if you're considering a fresh start.
