Hey everyone! I'm a 32-year-old dad of two and I'm eager to get into coding to eventually land a job in the tech industry. Since I have a part-time job, I'm specifically looking for a flexible coding course in the UK that teaches essential skills without being a huge time or money sink. I've seen some poor reviews for certain companies like Learning People, and I'm also curious about a free course offered by the government, but I'm unsure about its effectiveness. Any suggestions for worthwhile courses would be super helpful!

Have you checked out CS50? It's a fantastic course that gives you a solid foundation in computer science, and you can pair it with other courses too—super flexible!
You might want to consider self-learning as well! Sites like FreeCodeCamp, Udemy, and Full Stack Open provide loads of resources to get started. Just a heads-up, though: landing a job without formal qualifications can be tough, but it’s not impossible!
Check out mooc.fi! They offer free Python and Java courses that could help you get started without breaking the bank. The FAQ section here has additional resources that might also be useful for you!
Thanks for the tip! I’m really looking for something UK-based, though, do you know any specific part-time courses?
I'm in a similar boat! I started computer science classes at my local community college, and they were free. Depending on where you live, it's worth checking out what your local colleges might offer. You might get some valuable learning without the hefty price tag!
Appreciate it! I’ll definitely look into community colleges nearby.
Angela Yu has a great full web development course on Udemy—I took it, and it really kickstarted my career! Udemy courses are usually on sale too, making them pretty affordable. I found it more comprehensive than many bootcamps I've tried.
I hear you! That’s why I’m looking for a qualification that can fit into my schedule.
