Looking for the Best Linux Distro for Beginners with Nvidia Support

Hey everyone! I'm a Windows user who's really curious about switching to Linux. I'm planning to dual boot for now, and if I like it, I might fully switch over. I've been doing some research on which distribution to choose, and I'm a bit worried about Nvidia GPU support since I've heard mixed reviews on that front. A lot of folks suggest Fedora for having the best Nvidia driver support, but is there a better option out there? Just to be clear, I won't be gaming on Linux; my main activities are web browsing, using Discord, joining live classes, and coding with VS Code. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Choosing a distro really is a personal journey, kind of like finding a new favorite dish! Just go with popular options like Ubuntu, Mint, or Fedora so it's easier to find help if you get stuck.

Thanks! I think I'll give Fedora a shot tomorrow and hope for the best.

If you're coming from Windows, I'd suggest starting with Linux Mint or Ubuntu Cinnamon. Mint is based on Ubuntu and offers a user-friendly experience. Plus, it has a handy Drivers app that can help you install the correct Nvidia drivers easily after installation. It's a solid choice for newbies!

Absolutely! Also, consider setting up a separate home partition. It’ll make experimenting with different distros easier without losing your files. I’ve seen too many newbies get frustrated with distro hopping and losing everything!

Thanks for the tips! I heard Fedora handles the drivers automatically too, but I've been leaning towards choosing a distro that’s proven to be compatible.

I might help clarify things! I set up Nobara (a user-friendly distro) on my laptop with Nvidia. During the installation, I selected the option to install Nvidia drivers, and it worked like a charm!

That’s super helpful! I’m still weighing my options but I’ll definitely keep Nobara in mind.

Honestly, just go with Ubuntu for now. It’s reliable and should serve you well until you find something better suited to your needs later on.

Does Ubuntu have any Nvidia driver issues? I'm considering the Ultralite Fedora as well.
