Looking for Tips on Upgrading My First PC Build

Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my PC for the first time since I built it back in 2020. Here are my current specs:

- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT
- **GPU:** GeForce RTX 4060
- **RAM:** 16GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1066MHz
- **Motherboard:** MSI B550-A PRO
- **Storage:** 1TB Crucial CT1000P1SSD8 & 2TB Samsung SSD 990 EVO
- **Monitors:** ASUS TUF Gaming 27" 1440P and a Sceptre 27" Curved 75Hz 1080P

I've created a PC part picker list to outline the parts I'm considering [here](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pVwM8Z). I'm specifically looking for advice on where I can save money while still getting a solid upgrade. Also, if you have any case recommendations, that would be great! I've only upgraded my GPU before when one of the fans broke, so this is my first upgrade that isn't out of necessity. I'm a bit nervous, as I feel lucky with my first build and want to make sure I research everything and do it right. Currently, I'm budgeted between $2,000 and $3,000 but I'm hoping to buy parts over a few months to manage costs. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely keep your current RAM since it's pricey right now. Here’s what I suggest for a cost-effective upgrade:
- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 5 7600X for around $159.
- **Cooler:** Cooler Master Hyper 212 for just $19.
- **Motherboard:** A Gigabyte B850 EAGLE bundle for about $150.
- **Memory:** Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR5, currently around $370.
- **GPU:** Look at the MSI SHADOW GeForce RTX 5070 for around $630.
- **Case:** The Montech XR Mid Tower for around $70.
This setup totals about $1,480, saving you a lot compared to high-end complete builds!

I was shocked to see how much SSD prices have jumped too! I bought my Samsung SSD for $100 last year, and now I see them sold for $300+. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Your MSI B550-A PRO motherboard is a great starting point. You could just update the BIOS and pop in a Ryzen 7 5700X3D for around $200. That’ll keep your system running strong for years! Spend more on a higher-tier GPU since you're gaming at 1440p—consider the RTX 4070 or 4070 Ti. Don't worry about building again, it’s just like adult LEGOs!

This is awesome advice! A bit worried about messing with the BIOS though; I've heard horror stories. What do you think about the longevity of my existing motherboard after 6 years?

Are you based in the USA? Check if you're near a Microcenter; they often have great prices and combos for CPUs, motherboards, and RAM. Just make sure your budget of $2-3k doesn’t include peripherals like monitors and keyboards. Also, would you consider buying used parts?

My budget is just for the PC itself since I have all my peripherals. The nearest Microcenter is an hour away, but I’m considering a trip. Do they usually offer better deals in-store than online?

Check out this bundle at Microcenter: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an ASUS B850E TUF motherboard and a G.Skill Flare X5 32GB DDR5 RAM kit for just over $1600! This should set you up nicely. You could also look into dual-tower coolers or AIOs if you want solid cooling without breaking the bank.

You could definitely save some cash by skipping the expensive upgrades to your current storage setup since you already have a solid Samsung SSD. Consider finding a mobo-RAM-CPU bundle at Microcenter to cut costs further! Also, keep an eye on sales for cases on r/buildapcsales to snag some good deals.

Totally agree on the RAM! I’m set on reusing it, and I’ll be on the lookout for those bundles. Thanks for the tips!
