Looking to Migrate from Windows 11 to Linux – Which Distro Should I Choose?

Hey everyone! I'm considering making the switch from Windows 11 to Linux for my main PC. I've previously upgraded from Windows 7 all the way to 11 on the same license key. Recently, I've dabbled a bit with a Steam Deck, so I'm not entirely new to Linux. With my impending upgrade from an AM4 chipset to AM5 and using AMD hardware (thankfully, I've heard that Nvidia and Linux don't always get along), I'm eager to find a suitable distro.

After watching a bunch of videos about different Linux distros, I've narrowed it down to Linux Mint or Nobara, with Nobara being my top pick. I've also come across Zorin and CachyOS, but the GUI on CachyOS didn't appeal to me. I initially liked Bazzite, but it seems more suited for console or handheld use, and I prefer a distro that allows for tinkering when needed.

I'm looking for something that will handle my everyday tasks since I use various programs beyond gaming, like Discord and word processing for my creative writing hobby. However, my main focus is definitely on gaming. Any recommendations on other distros I should consider, or should I stick to the ones I'm already looking at?

You might want to check out the DistroChooser website. It helps you find distros based on your skill level and what you're looking for in terms of aesthetics and software support. It's a great way to start your Linux journey!

Ubuntu and Mint are both solid options. Mint is built on Ubuntu, so you get a ton of support, and it’s very user-friendly, especially if you're coming from Windows. I'd say Mint is always a fan-favorite for newcomers!

Mint really is the go-to choice for many! It just feels so familiar.
