Looking to Transition from Windows to Linux: Recommendations Needed!

Hey everyone! I'm currently using Windows 11 for gaming and I'm frustrated by how much RAM it's hogging (about 4GB out of 32GB!). I'm interested in switching to a Linux distribution that's beginner-friendly and easy to use—something like 'start, click, go'. I'm not very knowledgeable about Linux, so I'd appreciate a few solid recommendations. If you need more info to help with suggestions, just let me know! Here are my hardware specs for context: AMD R9 9900X, G.Skill Flare 32GB DDR5-6000, Nvidia 4070 Super, and a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD.

I just made the switch myself! Download Ventoy, set it up on your USB, and then download the Linux distro you want. Boot from the USB in BIOS, select the distro from the Ventoy menu, and follow the easy step-by-step installer.

How’s CachyOS treating you? I keep seeing it pop up as a top suggestion.

I suggest trying Linux in a virtual machine first to get a feel for it. Distros like Linux Mint, Ubuntu, or Fedora are great choices for beginners. Also, check out some YouTube videos about different Linux distros to help you decide!

If gaming performance is a concern, look into Bazzite or CachyOS. These are friendly for newcomers and perform well. You can test them out by creating a bootable USB—just use a tool like Ventoy or the Fedora Media Writer to install the ISO.

Will do! I have a spare thumb drive. Do I need specific software for this, or can I simply format the drive and transfer the ISO over?

How easy is it to install CachyOS? I've heard it looks similar to Windows 10.
