Hey everyone! I'm an IT Support Specialist with about a year and a half of experience under my belt. I've got certifications in CompTIA A+, Security+, and CCNA, along with an associate's degree in system and network administration. I've made the decision to switch careers into DevOps and I'm reaching out for some advice from those already in the field.
Right now, I'm re-learning Linux and just set up Rocky Linux on VirtualBox. I'm pretty comfortable with Windows Server, including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP, plus I have a basic understanding of PostgreSQL and Bash scripting. I can commit about 30-35 hours a week to learning and working on personal projects.
What tools and technologies should I focus on? What kind of real-world projects can I build to showcase my skills? Any certifications or online resources you'd recommend? And any tips for landing my first role in DevOps would be super helpful. Thanks a ton in advance!

I'm in a similar position, and finding time to learn with family can be tough! Besides Linux, you should definitely check out cloud platforms like AWS and Azure. Learning Terraform for automating cloud resource provisioning is also a great idea. Don't forget about diving deeper into scripting with PowerShell and Python, and familiarize yourself with CI/CD concepts using Git.
Thanks for the suggestions! Do you have any specific resource or YouTube video recommendations?
