Looking to Upgrade My GPU: Suggestions on Brands and Models?

I'm currently using a 1080TI in my PC, but as modern games get more demanding, I'm finding it hard to maintain a steady 60FPS. With a budget of about $400, I'm looking to replace my GPU. I'm open to any brand as long as it can perform well for the next few years. Currently, I'm running Windows but might switch to Linux, so a GPU that works well with either OS would be great. What are some solid replacement options? Here are the details of my current setup: MSI PRO Z690-P DDR4 Motherboard, Intel I5-12600KF CPU, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and an 850W PSU.

Just a tip: check out Nvidia's Pulsar technology, which is designed to work exclusively with their GPUs. It's supposed to deliver a clearer image than OLED at the same frame rates. I'm just saying this because I currently have an AMD card and feel a bit jealous of the Nvidia features.

If you're only looking to spend $400, I'd honestly say it might be worth considering a console instead for better overall value right now, especially since prices can be so high for GPUs.

You might want to hold off a little longer to save up for either the RX 9060XT 16GB or the RTX 5060TI 16GB. Both are fantastic performers and should last you for years. Don't bother with the highest-priced models; the cheaper versions will still do an excellent job!

I totally agree with you on that!

If you can stretch your budget a bit more, consider the RX 9060 XT 16GB. It's awesome for 1080p gaming and performs decently at 1440p as well. Plus, it features FSR and Frame Generation, so if your FPS isn’t as high as you'd like, those can help boost performance.

And don’t forget, AMD generally has better support for Linux, which is something you mentioned you’re interested in.

Make sure you go for the 16GB model; the 8GB one struggles in a lot of games!

Where are you shopping from? If you're in the US, I’ve seen the 9060 XT 16GB going for around $370, and the 5060TI for about $430. That's a killer deal if you're near a Microcenter!

I upgraded from an RX 5600 XT to the RX 9060 XT, and it was a game changer! With my 1080p monitor, I can now run games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Space Marine 2 on ultra settings at 90-100 FPS. If the price difference between the 9060 XT and the RTX 5060 TI is significant, just go with the RX 9060 XT without any hesitation. Just make sure to get a good brand; I went with Sapphire Pulse and it worked great for me!

Definitely grab the 16GB version if you go for either of those; the 8GB simply won't cut it.

You've got primarily two good options here: the 9060XT (go for the 16GB version, not the 8) and the Intel B580. Both will give you significant upgrades, but the 9060 is the better choice overall. By the way, if you live close to a Microcenter, they’ve got some great deals on the 9070s for $500, which might be worth it if you can manage it.

But the B580 could be a bad move; it's worse than both the 8GB 5060 and 9060XT for 1080p.

For gaming at 1440p on Linux, I'd suggest looking at the Intel B580, but keep in mind it's not as good as the RX 9060 XT or 5060TI.

CriticalConsumer -

The B580 is actually worse than both the 8GB versions of the others; I wouldn't recommend it.

Definitely consider the 5060 TI and make the most of DLSS. It's a solid option!
