I'm currently using an Intel i7-9700K with 32GB of DDR4 RAM and a 7800 XT. I think my CPU is bottlenecking my GPU's performance and I'm ready to upgrade. I'm eyeing the 9800X3D, but I'd have to buy a new motherboard which also means switching to DDR5 RAM, and that's a tough market right now.
Alternatively, I've considered the i5-13600K, but it's limited by my current motherboard. It's said to be on par with the 5800X3D, which I can get from a coworker for a decent price.
I'm feeling a bit stuck between the fear of missing out on a better, more future-proof upgrade versus settling for a smaller upgrade now. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the best path forward!

The 13600K is a good choice, but don't forget that it's not compatible with your current motherboard since they use different sockets. If you can grab that 5800X3D from your coworker at a solid price, it might be worth considering because you could use it with an affordable AM4 motherboard and stick with your DDR4 RAM. You'd get much better performance without breaking the bank. I upgraded from a similar rig, and it made a huge difference for me!
Honestly, it really depends on your gaming resolution. For many games at 1080p and maybe even 1440p, your 7800 XT might not be held back that much by the 9700K, especially with features like FSR to help. But if you're feeling the CPU limitations, the most sensible upgrade for now seems to be the 5800X3D. It's easier on your budget and would give you a nice boost while you wait for DDR5 prices to stabilize.

That's a good point! I hadn't thought about how FSR could help the 9700K a bit more. Might keep that in mind!
