Lost My iPhone in a River—Am I Doing Everything Right?

Hey everyone! So, I recently lost my iPhone 16 Pro when I flipped my kayak in some rapids. Thankfully, I have Lost & Theft insurance, but I'm unsure if I'm handling everything correctly. I've tried logging into iCloud, but without my lost phone for 2FA, I'm stuck. When I clicked on Find My iPhone, it showed the device as offline only an hour after it fell in. I'm not sure if it floated away and died or if something worse happened to it. I believe Find My iPhone was enabled since I never turned it off.

I spent a few hours searching the icy water before heading to the local Apple store. They can't help directly, but they showed me the contact form for AIG to submit a claim, which I filled out this morning. I also called Apple Support from my Google Voice, since I'm home alone and don't have many other phone options. They told me I needed to start Account Recovery to access my iCloud, which would allow me to submit my insurance claim and hopefully get a new phone. I started that process, but when they asked for my credit card verification, the system flagged my correct security code, preventing me from moving forward. Right now, I'm limited to using my email and Google Voice for verification. This situation is tough since my work relies on my phone for 2FA, meaning I can't work until this gets sorted out. Thanks for reading, and I'd really appreciate any advice on whether I'm on the right track!

You can actually log into the online version of Find My iPhone without the need for 2FA at icloud.com/find. Might help you track it down more effectively!

Oh yeah! Thank you! I did that as soon as I got home last night, but it still said "Offline." Any other tips?
