Managing Music on Linux for iPods

I'm switching from a Windows 10 laptop to Linux, probably Mint Cinnamon, and I'm trying to figure out how to manage my music collection seamlessly. Right now, I use iTunes to organize my digital music, which is mostly in m4a format. It's backed up on an external drive and synced with an iPod. While I'm open to alternatives, it's crucial that I can still add new music to my iPod. What are some good options for managing my music on Linux?

You should check out Rockbox! It's a software that breathes new life into older iPods and helps you bypass Apple’s restrictions. It's great for managing your iPod without using iTunes! Also, consider using Strawberry to manage your music collection; it’s user-friendly and robust. Just a heads up, if you're using an iPod Touch or an iPhone, syncing music is a bit trickier. You can look into libimobiledevice for lower-level access, but it won’t offer an easy sync option like you’re used to.

Just a thought: you could always consider getting a smartphone! It might simplify managing your music since there are plenty of apps out there that can handle that seamlessly.

If you're looking for alternatives to iTunes, I can relate. There isn't a direct equivalent in Linux, but I use Dolphin to rip music, Kid3 for editing tags, and Lollypop for browsing and playing. Lollypop also lets you edit album art, which is a nice bonus! Plus, if your iPod is one of the classic click wheel models, just install Rockbox to transfer music like you're copying to an external drive.
