My 13-Year-Old Was Targeted by a Scammer on TikTok, What Should I Do?

I recently found out that my 13-year-old started talking to someone on TikTok who he thought was a 15-year-old girl. Unfortunately, he ended up sending nude photos, including his face. The scammer got his phone number and has been texting him through iTunes, trying to hide their identity. They've now started to threaten him by saying they'll post the photos unless he pays them through Cash App. They've also tagged family members in their messages, probably from info they found online. I'm wondering if there's a way to trace or track the IP address linked to those emails they've been using to extort him. Any advice on what steps to take next?

This is a really serious situation. First and foremost, you should definitely contact the police. This isn't something you can handle on your own, and law enforcement is crucial in cases like this. They have the resources to help your son and to track down these individuals.

You're right to be worried. It’s not just a tech issue, it’s a legal one. I suggest contacting the authorities specialized in child exploitation. They have the right tools to investigate this. And whatever you do, don’t pay the ransom – it rarely works and can make things worse.

Exactly! Paying them won’t stop the threats, and it could lead to more of them targeting your child. Focus on getting professional help and ensuring your son is safe.
