My 2020 MacBook Pro Won’t Turn On—Help Needed!

I purchased a certified refurbished 2020 MacBook Pro from Best Buy about a year ago for college, and while it has had some minor issues, it was mostly functioning well until now. Recently, when opening the laptop, I would get alerts that it restarted due to problems, but I couldn't fix it. Sometimes it wouldn't wake up from crashing until I charged it for a bit and held the power button. Last night, I accidentally left the MacBook on overnight while it was plugged in, and the screen went black. Now, it won't turn on at all. I've tried charging it, holding the power button for 10-30 seconds, various key combinations like control+option+shift, and command+option+p+r, but nothing works. I'm heading back to college soon, and I really hope I don't have to buy a new laptop, especially with projects on it that aren't backed up. Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Have you checked if it's running on Apple Silicon or Intel? It might be a good idea to reach out to Best Buy to see if there's any warranty coverage left—most refurbished products have a limited warranty. If it's an Apple Silicon model, it could need servicing. Either way, if it's under warranty, they might help you out!

That's a good point! I know some products have 90-day warranties for refurbished ones—maybe check with Best Buy to confirm that?
