My Apartment Wifi is Terrible—What Can I Do?

I'm living in an apartment complex with 216 units across four buildings, and the shared wifi is really bad. It cuts out constantly and can disappear for days, making it nearly impossible to do anything more than simple searches. I want to play online games after working long shifts, but the congestion from so many users is making that impossible. I don't have a router spot in my apartment and my landlord claims the wifi is fine, but I know it isn't. I'm wondering if there's anything I can buy to boost or replace the router. Any suggestions? I'm located in Idaho, USA.

Seriously, just get your own internet! Relying on shared wifi is a recipe for disaster, especially with so many users. You deserve better!

Honestly, don't rely on the shared router. Investing in your own router could help solve your issue. Just keep in mind, with a lot of people using the network, it might not be a complete fix. You might want to switch to some offline games for now if online play is too frustrating.

I get that it’s frustrating; seems like you and your landlord have different views on what 'working fine' means. If there’s a written agreement about internet service levels, use that to your advantage. If not, get ready to explore other options like personal internet. It's tough, but you might need a solid backup plan to deal with this!

You might want to consider getting a 5G SIM card and a router. Services like T-Mobile have decent home internet plans that could work for situations like yours, where the shared wifi isn't cutting it. It's worth looking into!

T-Mobile is a good choice! Their plan is about $35 per month and it worked well for me in a similar situation.

If your apartment includes internet as part of your rent, go talk to the provider directly instead of through your landlord. If not, then sadly, you may have to buy your own internet. Getting a cellular option like fixed wireless could be your best bet, although it often involves paying more for less reliability, especially for gaming.
