My C Drive Keeps Filling Up – What Can I Do?

Hey everyone, my laptop has been super sluggish lately, and I noticed my C drive is almost full! It's only been a year since I got this machine, and now I only have 4GB of storage left. I've already deleted temp files (less than 1GB) and searched for large files using the size filter, but couldn't find anything significant. I've checked my Recycle Bin and the Disk Cleanup tool, but no luck there either. I moved some important files from my Downloads to the D drive and even removed WhatsApp, which was hogging around 20GB of space. Despite all that, I now have around 40GB free. However, I've been monitoring it, and after just eight days of light usage (mostly YouTube, no downloads), my storage is down to 33GB! I'm worried that at this rate, I'll run out of space soon again, and I won't have much left to delete. As it stands, I have only 233MB of temp files. If anyone has any advice or solutions, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Do you frequently send or receive emails with attachments? If that's the case, you might want to look into disabling cache exchange mode, which can take up extra space.

Nah, I hardly get any emails, and they usually don't have attachments.

Have you tried running the Disk Cleanup tool and selecting "Cleanup System Files"? You'd be surprised at how much junk can be cleared out, like Windows Updates and Delivery Optimization Files. Don't forget to check the "More Options" tab to get rid of System Restore and Shadow Copies too!

I did check the restore point, but it’s not very old, and the files it suggests to delete are minimal.

Not totally sure, but you might want to compare WinDirStat with SpaceSniffer. They both help in pinpointing the culprits for storage issues.

I used WinDirStat and pretty much only found system files taking up space. Frustrating!

Consider using WinDirStat. It’s a great tool to visually show you what's taking up space. Just make sure to avoid deleting any important Windows system files!

I just analyzed with WinDirStat and found around 100GB of system files. No idea what’s going on with that, and nothing I can delete is over 4GB!
