My External Hard Drive Keeps Disappearing! What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I've got an issue with my Seagate 8TB expansion external hard drive that I bought earlier this year. It's been acting weird, appearing and disappearing every now and then since I plugged it in. I checked it with CrystalDiskInfo, and it shows everything's good—no clicking sounds or anything. I was transferring some files and now Windows is asking me to scan and fix it due to an error. This isn't the first time; a few months ago it did the same thing, and after a scan, it worked fine. Luckily, this drive is just for backup, so I'm not too worried about data loss. I'm hoping to get it sorted out so I can keep using it without issues. Any advice?

First off, check your cable and the USB port you're using. A loose connection could cause those random disconnects. If you're using a USB hub, try plugging it directly into the computer instead—those hubs can be tricky sometimes. If swapping the cable or port doesn't help, there could be an issue with the drive caddy itself.

Thanks for the tip! I tried a different USB port and just completed the scan and fix. It's holding up so far, but if it disconnects again, do you think I'll need to reformat it?
