My Internet’s Been Out for Hours Since the Power Went Out—What Should I Do?

Last night, my building lost power, and since then, I've been experiencing internet issues. My devices connect but show 'Connected without internet.' I've done the usual troubleshooting: power cycling my router, unplugging it for different lengths of time, and changing cables, but nothing seems to work. I really need internet access to get my work done. What steps can I take to resolve this?

Have you contacted your ISP yet? They can sometimes send a remote reset command to fix connection issues from their end. It’s worth a shot!

Make sure you're rebooting the modem as well, not just the router. Check that all the lights on your modem are normal—if something happened during the power outage, it might be malfunctioning. Also, try rebooting your computer; sometimes that helps.

If you can’t get the internet back up right away, consider using your smartphone’s hotspot until the issue is resolved. Just a temporary fix, but it can keep you connected for now!

'Connected without internet' usually means your router is functioning but not communicating with your ISP. First, check if others in your building have the same issue; if they do, it could be a larger outage. If it’s just you, it’s best to get in touch with your ISP.

It's a good idea to check with your ISP or their status page on your mobile. If you're in a communal building, there might be a central connection issue they need to address. They can provide real-time updates.
