My iPad Got Wet and Won’t Turn On—What Now?

Hey everyone! I've been babysitting and bringing my iPad along for the kids to play with. I've been keeping it in a bag in my car, which has been a mistake since it's been pretty cold lately. I only realized today that the bag and my iPad are wet. The case is soaked and there's even water visible on the screen. Now, my iPad won't turn on. I've put it in rice because I heard that might help, but I've also heard that doesn't really work. What should I do?

You might want to try using a sealed container with silica gel packs or a natural desiccant like unscented cat litter. Just place some paper down, set the iPad on top, and let it sit for about three days. It could really help absorb the moisture.

First things first, if your device is wet, stop trying to turn it on! That's what can really mess things up. If you didn’t try to power it on, you’re in a better spot. You should consider taking it apart to dry it out, but if that’s too risky or you’re not comfortable doing it, just aim some fans at it from different angles for a few days. Good airflow helps the water evaporate. Just keep in mind that if it’s still closed off, it could take a lot longer for the water to escape.

Exactly! Trying to power it on when it's wet is a surefire way to cause short circuits.

Thanks for the heads up! I noticed the kids saying it wouldn’t turn on before I figured out about the water.
