My Laptop is Super Slow – How Can I Speed It Up?

I've been using my Acer laptop for college for about two years now, and it usually performs well. However, recently, it's become frustratingly slow. Even simple tasks like opening apps take several minutes, and there's a noticeable delay when I type. The Task Manager shows that my CPU usage is still high, around 80-100%, but disk usage is low. I've already updated and reset the laptop without any improvement. Does anyone have suggestions to help speed it up?

First, check which processes are hogging the CPU! Open Task Manager, sort by the CPU column, and see if any particular applications are causing the spike. That might give you a clue on what's slowing things down.

I recommend uninstalling any antivirus software besides Windows Defender. Those other ones can be pretty heavy and often come with annoying ads. Also, disable any startup items in Task Manager and reboot your laptop afterward.

You might want to download a program like Startup Cop. It helps you manage which non-Microsoft programs start up when you boot your laptop, potentially speeding things up by reducing load time.

Are you running Windows 11? If you have antivirus programs like Norton, AVG, or McAfee installed, they could be part of the problem. They tend to slow things down, so consider that when troubleshooting.
