I recently set up a new PC and monitor and started with an HDMI cable. However, I was advised that using a DisplayPort cable would provide better performance, so I bought a $10 DisplayPort cable from Amazon. The problem is that during gaming, my screen freezes, goes black, and then displays a message saying, "no DP signal from your device," before reconnecting and closing my game. This also happened with the HDMI cable. I asked for help online, and it was suggested that it might be a driver issue, but my drivers are updated. Any suggestions would be appreciated! My monitor is a Dell S2721HGF, supports 1080p at 144Hz, and I'm using an AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card. I recently picked up an IVANKY 8K DisplayPort Cable 1.4.

It might be that the $10 DisplayPort cable isn't handling the bandwidth necessary for your monitor's resolution and refresh rate. There are different tiers of DisplayPort cables, so sometimes a lower-end cable can't keep up, especially at higher settings. Check the cable specs to ensure it's compatible with your setup!
If you're facing these issues only while gaming, it might relate to the load on the graphics card. Try lowering the graphics settings to see if it stabilizes the connection. Also, testing with different cables is always a good approach!
I’ll give that a shot! Reducing the settings could help lessen the load and stop the disconnect.
Have you tried switching back to the HDMI cable? Sometimes it helps to isolate the problem. Also, does it only happen while gaming? Losing connection shouldn’t typically close your applications, so that’s odd.
Yes, I tried HDMI too, but the same thing happens. It's only when I'm gaming, and the screen just goes black and says looking for a signal.
Did someone tell you that DisplayPort is better? It can be in theory, but not if the cable isn't up to par. Make sure all components are compatible and of good quality to get the best pairing.
Yeah, I read that online. Just trying to optimize my setup here!

That makes sense! I just realized I got a DP 1.4, so I thought it should be okay, but who knows?
