I recently built a new gaming PC with the following specs: an AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3d processor, 32GB of RAM, a Geforce RTX 5070 TI graphics card, a Be Quiet Light Loop 360mm AIO water cooler, Be Quiet Light Wings LX PWM 120mm fans, a 1000W Gold ASUS TUF Gaming power supply, and two SSDs, all housed in a Lian Li O11 Compact case.
Right from the first boot, I've noticed that the CPU runs really hot—about 60°C while just using Windows. When I tried playing Minecraft with my girlfriend, who has a nearly identical setup (only different PSU), my temperature peaked at 90°C, while hers stayed under 60°C during similar use.
I've spent hours trying to resolve this issue. Here's what I've done so far:
- Adjusted the fan configuration to enhance airflow.
- Double-checked the CPU cooler and re-applied the thermal paste.
- Increased the AIO pump speed in the BIOS.
- Attempted to eliminate air bubbles in the cooling system.
I'm really out of options and feeling frustrated since I just set this system up two days ago. I've been looking for similar experiences online but haven't found much help. After running Battlefield 6 today, my CPU hit 90°C again. Can anyone offer insights or solutions?

If you've ensured the pump is installed correctly and it seems to be working fine, it might be a case of a defective unit. Also, I’d suggest updating your BIOS and replacing the thermal paste since you removed the cooler. Higher voltages can contribute to the heating issues, so keeping an eye on things with Hwinfo64 might show you what's going on under the hood.
Have you thought about trying a different air cooler, like a Thermalright Phantom Spirit? It can help determine if the current cooler is the issue. It's always nice to have a backup air cooler just in case your AIO fails.
First off, did you remember to remove the plastic film from the cold plate of the cooler before installation? That can cause major overheating issues! Just checking because I know it can be easy to overlook.
Since it was prebuilt, the plastic film was removed and thermal paste was applied.
Using MSI Afterburner is fine, but remember that 90°C is within spec for a 9800X3D. However, if your girlfriend's setup stays cool with the same components, there could still be something wrong with yours. It might be worth getting in touch with customer support for your build.
But how is hers cooler during the same gaming sessions?
90°C is really high for any CPU. If your cooling system is functioning as it should, check your BIOS settings. The PPT values might be way too high, which can push your temperatures up. I'd also recommend tuning your CPU’s voltage.
I downloaded Hwinfo but I'm not sure what I should screenshot. Which sensors do you want to see?

I double-checked all connections and reseated them multiple times. Am I out of luck?
