My PC Is Underperforming in Games—What Could Be the Problem?

I've been dealing with performance issues on my PC since I built it about five years ago, and things have gotten worse lately, especially while gaming. Despite having solid specs, I can't get the performance I expected. Given my setup, I should be able to play most games at high settings without any hiccups, but that's not the case. My specs are: Z590A Prime motherboard, i9-11900K processor, a Ventus 3x 3080 Ti GPU, 32GB DDR4 RAM, and a 2TB Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus. My 3DMark benchmarks show Fire Strike at 29,358 and Time Spy at 16,532, which seems low for my components. I've been troubleshooting for years but haven't found the issue. Any advice would be appreciated, even if it feels obvious!

You'll want to consider your monitor and the game resolution too. Sometimes the display settings can really impact performance, especially if you're running higher resolutions. What resolution and refresh rate is your monitor set to? That can make a big difference in how games perform!

How do you know it’s underperforming? Are you comparing your FPS with friends or benchmarks? Running tests with 3DMark helps, but also testing changes like undervolting or overclocking can provide better insights. Keep experimenting with those settings!

It sounds like you're experiencing some major lag! What kind of FPS are you getting in games? For example, are you around 80-85 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2 and dropping to 40 in Operator? Also, have you run a Cinebench or OCCT test? You mentioned some BIOS changes—what specifically did you tweak? Just double-checking that your display is plugged into the GPU, as that could definitely affect performance if it’s not!

Yeah, I'm seeing those framerates too. It's concerning, especially that FPS drop in Operator. I’ve checked my BIOS settings for security changes but I also enabled XMP and switched PCIe to Gen 4. Plus, I swapped my GPU with a 6900XT and got similar results, which is really puzzling.
