I have a student intern in our IT department who's completely new to Active Directory (AD). We're a small team managing a hybrid environment with about 120 users, so I'm looking for the best way to help him grasp the fundamentals of AD. I know there's the official Microsoft Learn platform, but I'd love to hear your tips or any resources you found helpful when you were starting out. If you've trained juniors before, what strategies worked best for you? Thanks in advance!

I’d suggest setting up a test environment where he can experiment without consequences. Walk him through building it, and then just let him break stuff! That’s how you learn best—from hands-on experience. Plus, seeing how everything interacts will speed up learning.
Have him install a VM on his personal laptop, and just block it from connecting to your production network. Guide him through the initial steps like OS installation and role assignments. This gives him a safe space to experiment, which I find works really well for newcomers.
Seriously, hands-on is essential! Start with the AD structure, then jump to a machine and run a Group Policy report. Show him things like password policies and how they’re applied. Getting him to join a domain can also really clarify GPOs and make the learning process click.

That’s a great idea! It’s so important they feel free to make mistakes in a controlled environment.
