Hey everyone! I'm having a frustrating issue with my PC. It started shutting down on its own, like there was a power cut, for the first time on February 8, 2025. It happened twice that night and the PC restarted automatically. The next day, the same thing happened: a total shutdown without any warning, although some of my secondary peripherals like the microphone and speakers stayed on while my keyboard and mouse stopped working. The motherboard logo remained lit too.
I tried taking everything apart, cleaning it, and plugging it back in, which made it work for about five minutes—but then it went completely silent: no fans, no peripherals responding, just the mic and speakers still on. I found that taking out the CR2032 battery and waiting about ten minutes lets the PC turn on again for a brief period. I even bought a new battery and put some thermal paste on the CPU.
All my fans are running well, and my cooling pump is operating at around 2000 RPM. My CPU temps are okay, usually between 25 and 40°C at idle, and 65 to 80°C during gaming. However, after a three-hour gaming session on February 12th, the PC shut down again, and nothing worked after—removing the battery, checking cables, and rebooting made no difference. I left the PC unplugged overnight, and in the morning, it still wouldn't turn on. I tried a different power outlet and power strip, and it turned on again, but I'm not sure for how long.
It's already shutting down in BIOS too, sometimes restarting, sometimes going completely quiet. It can run anywhere from 5 minutes to 3 hours before shutting down again. I'll have to see if changing outlets helps.
I plan to try the paperclip trick to jump the PSU and test each RAM stick individually if needed. Any advice would be hugely appreciated! Here's my setup:
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B760-F
- Graphics Card: MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ventus 3X E 12G
- RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB DDR5 32GB (2 x 16GB) 6400MHz CL32 Intel XMP
- Liquid Cooling: Corsair CPC Hydro H100x Elite
- Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-13600K (13th Gen)
- SSD: Crucial P3 Plus 2TB PCIe Gen4

It sounds like your power supply might be on the fritz. When these types of issues come up, especially with random shutdowns and reboots, it’s often the power supply failing to deliver consistent power. Have you tried testing with a different power supply yet? That could help rule it out.

Yeah, I’m planning to try that paperclip test to see if it’s a PSU issue. Thanks for the suggestion!
