My PC Won’t Turn On After a Windows Update

I was installing updates on my PC last night before bed by choosing the "update and power off" option. Now, when I press the power button, absolutely nothing happens. I don't have the right screwdriver at the moment, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to take any parts out for testing. Here are my specs: Aorus B550M AX V2 motherboard, Toughpower GT 850W power supply, Ryzen 7 5700X CPU, two GPUs (RTX 5060 and RTX 3060), 32 GB of RAM, a 120GB SSD for the OS, and a 1TB HDD plus two PCIE SSDs. The power supply and RTX 5060 are brand new and have been working fine for a month. I suspect the Windows update caused this issue and would love any suggestions to troubleshoot.

It sounds like your PC might just be stuck in a weird state. A Windows update shouldn’t stop your power button from working. Try unplugging the power cable, holding down the power button for about 10 seconds, and then plug it back in to see if it wakes up.

Totally agree! I’ve had a nightmare with laptops where the battery's stuck and you have to take everything apart. At least this is a desktop and should be simpler!

I tried that, but no luck unfortunately.

Yeah, typical Microsoft messing things up. Updates can throw a wrench in the works sometimes. You might want to check if there’s a way to reset the BIOS or clear CMOS—it can help if the update created some configuration issues.

True, things can fail out of nowhere. But updates sometimes can cause weird bugs, especially if they affect your BIOS settings.
